Art practice
For eight years Wayne was a post-graduate in glass at Sydney College of the Arts. Having successfully completed two Masters degrees, he completed a Doctorate that combined his creative making with theoretical research into Australian studio glass practice. His studies revolved around his own work and an examination of the practice of selected contemporary Australian glass artists. His work crosses a range of glass techniques including glass casting; reverse painting on glass and flame work. Casting He explores aesthetic response to glass through casting in his Material Landscape pieces. Within tight shapes these works reflect the dynamic flow of their making in ambiguous internal forms that stimulate the spectator into creating their own deep readings. Painting In his glass painting he continues to produce his series of portraits. The Voices in the Glass series reveals his interpretation of a range of Australian glassmakers created using his particular approach to reverse painting. This technique combines draughtsmanship with the painterly application of colour in constructing these narratives. As well as portraits Wayne also reverse paints images such as birds and landscape. |
